🇲🇾🇮🇱 Malaysia has banned government employees from using Google-owned navigation app Waze, citing concerns over its Israeli origins.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ordered civil servants to stop using the app immediately, warning that its Israeli roots could create risks involving sensitive location data and potential exposure to Israeli laws.
Waze was originally developed in Israel before being acquired by Google in 2013.
The Malaysian government is encouraging public employees to switch to TuJu, a domestically developed navigation alternative.
Malaysia, a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause, does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel.
The decision reflects growing concerns in Malaysia about foreign technology platforms and the security of data collected through everyday applications.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering investment opportunities in Azerbaijan’s transport connectivity sector, including a number of specific projects such as the railway in Nakhchivan, Stella Renita, Head of the Regional Representation of the EIB Group for the South Caucasus, stated at the EU-Azerbaijan Business Forum in Baku, Report informs.
“At this stage, the bank is studying investment opportunities in the connectivity sector and a number of specific projects, such as the railway in Nakhchivan,” she noted.
According to her, connectivity encompasses not only transport infrastructure, but also the energy and digital sectors.
In particular, the EIB is considering participation in the Black Sea digital connectivity project, as well as the Caspian–Black Sea green energy corridor project.
Renita added that the EIB also supports the private sector through lending via local banks. In Azerbaijan, around 120 enterprises have already received funding from the bank.
A source in the Iraqi government told the Qatari Al Jazeera network that Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered the closure of the Al-Sheeb border crossing with Iran, without disclosing the reasons.
According to the source, the crossing will be closed to the movement of people and goods starting October 21 until further notice.
Several border crossings with Iran will be gradually closed in the coming days.
Iran has been deeply involved in Iraqi politics since the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime in 2003.
