A US military official told Reuters that American forces confronted a dhow last week, ordered everyone off and destroyed it after determining the crew was calling in ship positions, including US warships, to the Revolutionary Guard.
Nobody was hurt.
That’s the new Iranian playbook: unarmed spotters on small boats doing the job the radars did before US strikes wrecked them.
The official says Iran won’t risk its last fast boats, which is why exports through the strait keep climbing.
But the data shows at least 5 ships hit around Hormuz in 48 hours, the fastest pace of the war, and spotters in dhows are cheap, deniable and everywhere.
Sinking one is easy. Telling a spotter from a fisherman before he radios a tanker’s position is the war the Navy is now in.

Russia has suffered from severe fuel shortages in recent months, which caused low levels of public discontent across the country, and the Kremlin is likely attempting to preemptively calm fears about potential effects of the fuel agreement with the U.S.[10] Russia will likely prioritize fulfilling its diesel agreement with the U.S. over ensuring the stability of the Russian domestic fuel market, however, as the Kremlin is hoping to exploit the diesel agreement to advance its interests in the war in Ukraine.Institute for the Study of War (@TheStudyofWar)MORE: Kremlin officials’ acknowledgement of the war in Iran as a key driver of US and global diesel fuel shortages follows recent lower-ranking Russian official and ultranationalist voices’ statements that Ukrainian strikes against Russian oil refineries are not responsible for high diesel prices globally. Kremlin officials meanwhile continued efforts to frame the October 9 agreement as a diplomatic overture to the United States.
Moscow has repeatedly offered the United States economic incentives that it claims are unrelated to the war in Ukraine in order to extract concessions from the U.S. regarding the war. Russia heavily relies on oil revenues to fund its war in Ukraine and would disproportionately benefit from convincing the U.S. to force Ukraine to stop striking its oil refineries.— https://x.com/TheStudyofWar/status/2110196395101798831
