Ukraine is urging the United States to consider sanctions against Russian and Chinese companies linked to Rassvet, a satellite communications system that Kyiv says could strengthen Russia’s battlefield capabilities. According to the Financial Times, Ukrainian officials have repeatedly raised concerns that the network could support Russian drone operations by providing more reliable communications and connectivity over long distances. The system has drawn comparisons with Starlink, which has played an important role in Ukraine’s wartime communications. Kyiv fears that a Russian satellite network backed by Chinese companies could reduce Moscow’s reliance on Western technology and potentially create a new advantage for Russian forces. The push for sanctions comes as satellite communications become increasingly important in modern warfare.
