Ukraine has entered into seven agreements with Finland, and among these are arrangements aimed at broadening Kyiv’s access to and use of Finnish satellite capabilities through Nokia and ICEYE.
This development follows recent disruptions to Starlink that made clear just how heavily the country’s defense depends on one private provider, which has the ability to limit service without giving any prior warning.
Zelenskyy said — We agreed that we will make greater use of Finland’s satellite capabilities. This is important for our defense and for Ukraine’s resilience.
In recent times, attempts to limit Ukraine’s ability to use satellite systems have sparked a kind of finger-pointing among officials in the Trump Administration and their allies, who have given conflicting accounts of what actually caused the abrupt restrictions on Kyiv’s capacity to intercept Russian attacks.
Days ago, restrictions were imposed on Starshield — SpaceX’s military-grade variant of the Starlink satellite internet service, which serves as the backbone of Ukraine’s drone operations and communications — and these curbs caused alarm among the country’s military and government officials, with commanders reporting lost drones and missions that were disrupted as a result.
After several days of anxious deliberation, US President Donald Trump asserted that the service is once again operating at full speed.
However, European officials reportedly stated that nothing has changed in the operation of Starshield, with its speed cap still set at about 100 mph
To date, Ukraine has not been given any clear official account that explains who was responsible for issuing the restrictions, nor the reasons behind them.
This incident, together with the fact that no one has since been held accountable for it, has caused profound shock and alarm among Russia hawks and Ukraine’s allies on Capitol Hill.
Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal announced a new inquiry into how the technologies were slowed down for Ukraine’s defense systems.
People have been raising a growing number of questions about who ordered the interruptions to the Elon Musk-made satellite internet system, which Ukraine has depended on for years as a way to counter attacks from Moscow.
Trump has continued to insist that he was not the one who made the call.
Vice President JD Vance has suggested that the White House was coordinating with Musk, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have both denied that anyone in the Administration was involved.
Musk, who is one of the GOP’s biggest donors and an ally of Trump, suggested that since Ukraine was using the military-grade version of his technology, any questions about the service ought to be directed to the Pentagon.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 Brent crude oil has climbed to $113.66 per barrel, approaching a 5-month high as fears grow over another round of U.S.-Israeli strikes against Iran.
Oil briefly reached $114.65 earlier today, with prices now up nearly 87% since the beginning of the year.
The latest increase comes as Washington and Israel reportedly prepare for a renewed military offensive against Iran.
Possible targets include Iranian nuclear facilities, missile production sites, and energy infrastructure, though no final decision has been confirmed.
Meanwhile, renewed attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and threats against Gulf energy facilities are adding pressure to oil markets.
With Brent already above $113, another major escalation could send prices sharply higher, with the crisis now already contributing to disorder in Europe and extreme fuel shortages in parts of Asia.
