America already had a 1951 right to base troops there for as long as NATO exists.

The September agreement adds two sites, Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig, expands Pituffik, and writes down a ban on non NATO bases that was already politically impossible.

The real change is the expiry.

It survives if Greenland leaves Denmark, and it gives Washington a formal say on sensitive investment from outside NATO, the EU, and partners.

Trump got the veto he was chasing.

Copenhagen kept sovereignty, while Greenland can vote itself independent later.

It can’t vote itself out of the American security perimeter.
