Ukrainian drone operators from Signum have released footage showing a series of middle-strike missions against Russian targets well beyond the immediate front line, the 59th Assault Brigade of Unmanned Systems reported.

The compilation shows strikes against a vessel, Russian mobile fire groups, a semi-truck, passenger and cargo vehicles, as well as Russian infantry operating deeper in the rear.

Signum said it is increasingly relying on middle-strike drones for missions of this kind, giving its crews the ability to reach targets far beyond the line of contact and disrupt Russian logistics, personnel movements, and defensive units before they approach the front. The unit gave the strike on the vessel a particularly pointed caption: “Russian warship, is that you?” referring to the final communication made on 24 February 2022, the first day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, when, during the Snake Island campaign, a Ukrainian border guard spoke to the Russian missile cruiser Moskva. Previously, reports emerged that Ukraine’s repeated strikes on Russia’s Black Sea Fleet have created a growing maintenance problem for Moscow, leaving damaged warships with few safe places where they can undergo lengthy repairs without becoming stationary targets. According to Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk, Russia is struggling to conduct full-scale maintenance at its Novorossiysk base, while its primary repair infrastructure in temporarily occupied Crimea has become increasingly difficult to use because of Ukrainian strikes. For major repairs, Russian vessels need to enter dry dock and remain immobilized for extended periods—making them considerably more vulnerable to Ukrainian attacks.

“Therefore, there can currently be no talk of any prolonged repairs or maintenance,” Pletenchuk said.

The pressure comes as Russia’s naval missile capability in the Black Sea has also narrowed. Pletenchuk said Moscow currently retains two surface ships capable of carrying cruise missiles, as well as two submarines that have recently seen little operational use. Russian surface vessels have also continued to suffer damage. Pletenchuk named the Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov frigates, as well as a Buyan-M-class small missile ship, among vessels that have been struck.

Novorossiysk has become the main refuge for much of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet after Ukrainian attacks made operations from temporarily occupied Crimea increasingly dangerous.

However, concentrating ships there has created another vulnerability: vessels requiring serious maintenance must remain in predictable locations long enough to undergo repairs, potentially exposing them to further strikes. Russia’s main Black Sea Fleet repair facilities remain in temporarily occupied Crimea, but Ukrainian operations against military infrastructure on the peninsula have significantly complicated Moscow’s ability to rely on those bases.

Despite the reduced activity of Russian warships, the threat from the Black Sea region remains. Pletenchuk said Russia continues to rely primarily on missiles, drones, and aircraft for attacks against Ukraine.

He added that Russian aviation remains active in the operational area, while Ukrainian strikes against military targets in temporarily occupied Crimea are aimed at further reducing Russia’s ability to launch attacks from the peninsula.
