A chemical tank exploded in Toledo, Ohio, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate their homes or shelter in place due to fears of a toxic release, and the mayor warned Wednesday that it may still be explosive.
A sheriff’s deputy was injured when he responded to the explosion around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said at a news conference Wednesday morning. Kapszukiewicz provided no information about the deputy’s condition.
MC Tank Transport said the tank contained glycidyl methacrylate, which it described as “an industrial chemical used to make certain plastics, paints and coatings perform better.”

Russia has released Stephen Hubbard, an American citizen who has been imprisoned since 2022, President Donald Trump said Oct. 21.
Hubbard, a 74-year-old retired teacher, was living in Ukraine in February 2022 when Russia invaded. He was captured and taken to Moscow, where he was sentenced to nearly seven years after being convicted of fighting as a mercenary for Ukraine. He was designated as wrongfully detained by the U.S. State Department in January 2025.

A female dusky shark nicknamed “Bukangi” has been returned to the open sea after spending more than a month trapped in an artificial canal in Busan, South Korea.
The three-metre-long shark became a local attraction, drawing more than 1.6 million visitors to the waterfront park. Authorities succeeded in guiding it towards the sea on their third attempt, using floating platforms, nets and divers.
Bukangi’s appearance also drew attention to shark sightings along South Korea’s coast, with experts suggesting that warming seas could be one contributing factor.
