The European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering investment opportunities in Azerbaijan’s transport connectivity sector, including a number of specific projects such as the railway in Nakhchivan, Stella Renita, Head of the Regional Representation of the EIB Group for the South Caucasus, stated at the EU-Azerbaijan Business Forum in Baku, Report informs.
“At this stage, the bank is studying investment opportunities in the connectivity sector and a number of specific projects, such as the railway in Nakhchivan,” she noted.
According to her, connectivity encompasses not only transport infrastructure, but also the energy and digital sectors.
In particular, the EIB is considering participation in the Black Sea digital connectivity project, as well as the Caspian–Black Sea green energy corridor project.
Renita added that the EIB also supports the private sector through lending via local banks. In Azerbaijan, around 120 enterprises have already received funding from the bank.
A source in the Iraqi government told the Qatari Al Jazeera network that Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered the closure of the Al-Sheeb border crossing with Iran, without disclosing the reasons.
According to the source, the crossing will be closed to the movement of people and goods starting October 21 until further notice.
Several border crossings with Iran will be gradually closed in the coming days.
Iran has been deeply involved in Iraqi politics since the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime in 2003.
More than a dozen Iraqi political parties have ties to Iran, which funds and trains paramilitary groups aligned with these parties.
Some paramilitary groups under the umbrella of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces have pledged allegiance to Iran’s supreme leader.
These groups have used violence to crush opposition to Iranian influence.

Oktyabrın 21-də isə Putinlə görüşmək üçün Rusiyanın Sankt-Peterburq şəhərinə gəlib. Görüşdə Habbardın azadlığa buraxılması məsələsinin də müzakirəsi gözlənilir.
2024-cü ilin oktyabrında Moskva Şəhər Məhkəməsi Stiven Habbardı Ukrayna tərəfində muzdlu döyüşçü kimi hərbi əməliyyatlarda iştirak etməkdə təqsirli bilərək 6 il 10 ay müddətinə azadlıqdan məhrum edib.
Habbardın bacısı Patrisiya Habbard Foks daha əvvəl “Amerikanın səsi”nin rus xidmətinə müsahibəsində qardaşının Ukraynada yaşadığını və ingilis dili müəllimi işlədiyini bildirib.
