Could Republicans be heading for a difficult night in the November 3, 2026 US midterm elections? Some GOP senators are warning that the party faces serious political risks, with President Donald Trump’s leadership, rising fuel costs and the war with Iran emerging as key issues.
Texas Senator John Cornyn warned in June that the midterms could become a “disaster” for Republicans after losing his party’s Senate primary to Trump-backed challenger Ken Paxton. Cornyn also cautioned that Trump could face a difficult final two years if Democrats make significant gains.
Senator Rand Paul has separately warned that persistently high oil and gasoline prices, combined with continued military action against Iran, could lead to a disastrous election for the GOP. The conflict has added to economic concerns as voters grapple with fuel costs and affordability.

Federal investigators are now digging into both her immigration history AND financial disclosures.
Authorities searched Omar’s Washington home, seized her phone and passport, and issued more than a dozen grand-jury subpoenas, including to relatives, as they investigate possible fraud or false statements.
But none of this establishes wrongdoing…
Omar’s lawyers say there is *no legitimate basis” to suggest she violated citizenship law, and a previous federal review found insufficient evidence to pursue similar allegations.
If prosecutors ultimately prove citizenship was obtained through deliberate fraud, denaturalization could become a legal option.
