🇺🇸🇮🇷 The B-1 withdrawal may not mean de-escalation. It could mean the opposite.

Anthony Aguilar thinks Washington may be moving its B-1 bombers out of Britain not because the Iran war is winding down, but because it is preparing for a more dangerous phase.

His argument is simple.

Iran’s longer-range missiles potentially put U.S. facilities far beyond the Middle East at risk, including bases in Europe.

And unlike tactical aircraft that need to remain relatively close to the battlefield, B-1s can operate from much farther away.

He thinks the alleged attack plot at Fairford may therefore be less important than the timing of the withdrawal itself.

“If you’re the United States and you’re saying, hey, we’re going to take this up to 11, you got to expect that Iran is also going to take it up to 11 or 12.”

That changes the geography of the war.

Aguilar’s larger warning is that seven months can create a false sense that the boundaries of this conflict are already known.

“We’re not even out of the first inning of what this could be.”

If Iranian missiles can bring European bases into the battlefield, the distinction between a Middle Eastern war and something much larger starts getting dangerously thin.
