Armenia’s exit from EAEU will bring back mandatory customs declaration and control

The suspension of Armenia’s EAEU membership will bring back mandatory customs declaration and control, says the report by the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, prepared by Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, on the possible consequences of suspending the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union with respect to Armenia.

The report notes that if a decision is made to suspend the Republic of Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, the legal regime established by the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union of May 29, 2014, which depends on the Republic of Armenia’s status as a member state of the Union, will be suspended with respect to Armenia, its economic entities and its citizens.

A key result of such a decision in the area of customs legal relations will be “the restoration of mandatory customs declaration and customs control for goods imported from the Republic of Armenia into EAEU member states, in the manner and under the conditions provided for by EAEU law for imports from third countries.”

It will also be followed by “the restoration of mandatory customs declaration and customs control for goods exported from EAEU member states to the Republic of Armenia, in the manner and under the conditions provided for by EAEU law and the legislation of EAEU member states for exports to third countries.”
