–What claims did Russian TV make about Azerbaijan and Operation Spiderweb?
Following Operation Spiderweb in June 2025, Russian state television outlets aired claims that Azerbaijan assisted Ukraine in carrying out the drone attacks.
Specifically, the accusations alleged that Azerbaijani special services, “using their diasporas in Russia,” provided logistical support to Ukrainian intelligence for Operation Spiderweb. According to these reports, the Azerbaijani diaspora networks within Russia were involved in providing logistics for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Following these allegations, Russian security services reportedly began carrying out operations to “neutralize Azerbaijani diasporas,” which they believed were functioning as an “intelligence outpost” coordinating with Ukrainian intelligence.
These accusations were broadcast amidst worsening bilateral relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, marked by heightened tension over previous incidents, including a disputed plane crash and arrests of Azerbaijani citizens in Russia. Azerbaijan has not officially responded to these specific allegations regarding Operation Spiderweb.— https://x.com/mikenov/status/1949436375989653517— Michael Novakhov (@mikenov) Jan 1, 2026
