In 1976, transit workers turned the sealed-off platform into a temporary exhibit for America’s Bicentennial. It was supposed to run for a few months. PetroChina has reportedly already cancelled most planned gasoline and jet fuel cargoes, after Chinese refined-product exports jumped 12.7% year-on-year in August and jet fuel exports hit a record.
The timing matters: Russia has extended its diesel export ban, Gulf product exports are reportedly running at just 58% of pre-war levels, and now China is holding back too.
If this lasts beyond China’s Golden Week holiday, another major fuel supplier will effectively be keeping barrels at home just as global supplies are already tightening.
