🇮🇳🇦🇪 The Flydubai captain has spoken for the first time, saying he kept going because he “couldn’t let everybody else die.”
Smit Machchhar told Indian PM Modi on a video call today that he was so badly wounded he’d collapsed on the cockpit floor, wondering whether he’d ever get back up.
With the plane going down and the copilot still beating him, he pushed himself to the cockpit door and opened it, letting passengers rush in to restrain the attacker and help get the Tel Aviv-bound flight back under control.
Bleeding on the floor of a falling plane, his last thought was everyone sitting behind that door, and that’s the stuff real heroes are made of.
