Azerbaijan plans to add AI principle to journalists’ ethical code

Work is underway to add a new principle on artificial intelligence (AI) to the Code of Ethical Conduct for Azerbaijani Journalists, Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan Press Council Mushfig Alasgarli said at the 9th Congress of Azerbaijani Journalists.

According to Report, Alasgarli said the new principle would establish rules governing the use of artificial intelligence by media entities.

“Internal documents regulating the use of artificial intelligence systems should be adopted by media editorial offices. These rules should clearly define the purposes and limits of AI use, verification procedures and editorial responsibility. Editorial offices should also create appropriate conditions to improve their employees’ skills in using artificial intelligence,” he said.

The deputy chairman stressed that the use of AI systems should not replace journalists’ initiative and judgment, editorial independence or human oversight.

“Transparency should be ensured so that audiences can properly understand content created, modified or significantly shaped with the help of artificial intelligence. AI-generated photos, audio, video and other content that could mislead audiences should be appropriately labeled, and audiences should be informed of its origin,” Alasgarli said.

He added that the use of AI systems should comply with the principles of copyright protection, confidentiality of personal data and sources, human dignity and non-discrimination.

Students and Yellow Vests protests: Greater collective strength versus risk of losing distinct voice

As student protests converge with broader public discontent over the rising cost of living in France, Genie Godula is joined by Sébastien Vieille, national secretary of the SNALC teachers’ union. He offers an assessment of a movement confronting political uncertainty, deteriorating school infrastructure and mounting fiscal constraints. Speaking from Montbéliard in eastern France, Vieille questions whether alliances with larger protest movements, including the Yellow Vests, will strengthen students’ demands or ultimately make them “less visible”.

Azerbaijan plans expanded food traceability under 2027-2032 program

Digitalization is of particular importance for food safety in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) Goshgar Tahmazli said at the World Food Day 2026 event held at ADA University.

According to Report, Tahmazli said digitalization makes it possible to accelerate information exchange in import-export operations, simplify procedures and increase transparency.

“Today, Azerbaijani products are already exported to more than 70 countries. Digitalization does not simply mean increasing the number of electronic services. The key is to be able to trace the origin of a product, identify risks in a timely manner and make the right decision without delay. We want consumers to be confident in the safety of the products they purchase, while farmers and entrepreneurs should be able to bring the results of their work to broader markets,” he said.

Tahmazli noted that there are significant opportunities to achieve these goals in the coming period.

“Under the 2027-2032 State Program on Food Safety, it is planned to ensure the traceability of food products from production through to final consumption and to expand information exchange among government agencies,” he said.

Tahmazli added that although these may initially appear to be technical issues, each serves an important objective – risk assessment in the field of food safety.

“This will enable us to identify risks in a timely manner, prevent problems from escalating and protect human health more reliably,” he said.
