In the port city of Aden, at least six explosions were reported in the vicinity of the palace used by Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
The Iran-supported Houthi rebels, based in northern Yemen, quickly took responsibility for the attacks.
This incident marked a rare assault on the palace grounds, occurring amidst intensified clashes between the rebels and a Saudi-led coalition, representing a new chapter in the ongoing Iran conflict.
Residents were thrown into a state of panic, prompting many to flee the area in fear.
According to the Aden-based SABA news agency, the government indicated that the Houthis launched the assault using missiles and drones.
A security official noted that at least two of the explosions occurred atop the hill near the Maashiq palace, while two others were close to the security gate.
Numerous leaders of Yemen’s internationally recognized government are currently in exile, while officials reported that those based in Aden remain secure.
Prime Minister Shaya Zindani denounced the Houthi assault on Aden, labeling it as cowardly and a continuation of their criminal behaviour.
He emphasized that the government remains committed to its responsibilities and assured that the determination of its forces to conduct operations against the Houthis along Yemen’s Red Sea coastline and other battlefronts would not falter.
The Houthis announced their assault on a military operations headquarters associated with the Saudi enemy, which is a component of their broader strategy aimed at striking Saudi targets.
This approach has encompassed multiple attacks on airports and oil facilities within the Gulf Kingdom.
The escalating tensions have intensified instability in global markets, particularly as Saudi Arabia, a leading oil exporter, endures a series of assaults.
The impact extends to regional aviation, with rebels issuing warnings to airlines regarding their operations in Saudi airspace.
As a result, the disruption of thousands of flights throughout the Kingdom has become a significant issue.
