Democrat James Talarico was asked about his very publicized absence from the campaign trail for nine days so close to the election. He said he had a nasty case of the flu and worked remotely from home and wouldn’t change doing that. The state representative from Austin also used one of his overall campaign themes, of blaming billionaires, and encouraging Democrats, Independents, and Republicans to join his campaign to sharply criticize all of the false claims online and social media that gained millions of views.

Texas approved a new high school social studies curriculum that will teach students that Israel was established in 1948 in the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people, while also emphasizing Christianity’s influence on American history, the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Bible’s impact on American society and law, the military expansion of early Islam, the Islamization of Pakistan and the dangers of communism.
The broader overhaul will affect Texas public schools, which serve approximately 5.5 million students.
