The reason, reportedly, is that people were complaining the alerts were waking them up at night.
At least 18 people are dead and more than 300 wounded after 4 attacks on the capital in the past week, and not a single public alert went out before any of them.
The warning system had gone quiet since late September, even as Houthi attacks kept piling up, and residents have been told to keep images of interceptions and impact sites to themselves.
Western embassies were quietly sending their own missile alerts to staff the whole time, but even they were left in the dark before Saturday’s strike, the deadliest of the lot.
Riyadh finally turned the alerts back on yesterday, after the capital had already been hit around a dozen times this month.
Frm U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia Michael Ratney:
“The lack of alerts of incoming Houthi attacks creates the very nervousness they are trying to avoid.”

Today it already has around 174 F-16C/I fighters, including ~97 F-16I Sufas, around 66 F-15A/C/I combat aircraft and a growing F-35I fleet.
But look at where this is going.
Israel plans to reach 100 F-35Is and potentially 50 F-15IAs, while modernizing its F-15Is and keeping a large F-16I fleet. On top of that, it’s expanding its KC-46A tanker fleet, G550 CAEW and Phalcon AEW&C, along with its intelligence and electronic warfare capabilities.
And let’s be honest, Iran is a major factor behind this transformation.
Israel needs an Air Force capable of flying extremely long distances, penetrating sophisticated air defenses, carrying large weapons loads and doing it repeatedly. That’s exactly the kind of capability this buildup is creating.
By 2036, I don’t expect the IAF to be much smaller. I expect it to be roughly the same size but far more powerful.
100 F-35Is + potentially 50 F-15IAs + F-16I Sufas + upgraded F-15Is + tankers + AEW&C + Israeli intelligence and EW.
That’s a serious long range strike force.
For Iran, the threat is growing, the IAF is getting harder to stop and more capable of striking deep inside Iran.
