France is witnessing a growing wave of student unrest as demonstrations over education funding, overcrowded classrooms, teacher shortages and deteriorating school infrastructure spread across the country. What began in the Paris region has now expanded to multiple cities, with high-school and university students staging blockades, rallies and campus protests. Reports indicate that hundreds of schools have been disrupted, while clashes between protesters and riot police have been reported in several locations.
Authorities say more than 440 people have been detained amid the unrest. Student groups continue to demand greater investment in education, improved learning conditions and more resources for schools and universities.

STORYLINE:
Israelis gathered in Reim Wednesday to commemorate the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack that killed 1,200 people, saw 251 taken hostage, and sparked a devastating war in Gaza that has left much of the territory in ruins and its 2 million people living in dire conditions.
In southern Israel, families mourned at intersections, bomb shelters and the site of a music festival that the militants overran three years ago in the deadliest attack against Israel.
It is the first anniversary that all the hostages are home, marking a new stage of grief.
“This was a colossal failure of the state of Israel, which was established to defend Jews in our land,” Naftali Bennett said, former Israeli prime minister and a candidate in the upcoming Israeli elections.
For Palestinians, the anniversary brings another day of misery and difficulties after an Israeli retaliatory campaign in Gaza has killed tens of thousands of people.
Despite a ceasefire deal reached nearly a year ago, Israeli strikes continue almost daily.

The protests are driven by allegations of electoral fraud and vote manipulation in the 2024 general election and subsequent Bihar elections.
The controversy has now spilled onto the streets, with repeated mass detentions doing little to quell demands for greater electoral transparency.
