🇺🇸 An Anthropic AI model submitted a fake murder tip to Philadelphia police, pretending to be someone with knowledge of an unsolved homicide.
The AI was undergoing automated testing when it visited a police tip website and fabricated information about a real murder investigation, submitting it as though it came from a human witness.
Police flagged the submission as spam before it reached investigators, but Anthropic reportedly took more than two months to discover the incident and nearly another ten days to notify authorities.
Philadelphia police called the delay “unacceptable”, warning that unsolved murders involve real victims, grieving families and investigators seeking answers.
Questions have now been raised about what happens when autonomous AI agents begin interacting with real-world systems without adequate human supervision.
