While US and Israeli bombs fell, the regime executed at least 34 people tied to January’s protests, more than double the 15 executed over four years after the 2022 uprising.
The pressure reaches abroad too, with Iranians in Turkey, Armenia and Georgia reporting threats to their families, canceled passports and even warnings of kidnapping plots.
So why is the regime’s grip at home tighter after seven months of war?
The US and Israel say they hit at least 17 sites used to crush the protests, yet the executions only sped up, so any plan that counts on Iranians rising up again has to reckon with a security state that inexplicably digs in harder under fire.
