🇳🇱🇮🇱 Want to learn Dutch? First, make sure your opinions on Gaza pass the entrance exam.
An Israeli man in the Netherlands was reportedly turned away from a Dutch language course because he refused to call the war in Gaza a genocide.
In a recording released by Dutch Jewish group CIDI, the teacher opens the admissions interview by making his condition clear: he only wants students who agree that genocide is happening in Gaza.
The student, who lost his uncle on October 7, said possible war crimes should be investigated, but he doesn’t believe Israel is deliberately committing genocide.
That was enough. The teacher accused him of being in denial and suggested he find another school.
CIDI has now taken the case to the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights.
Apparently, before you can learn how to say something in Dutch, you have to agree on what you’re allowed to think.
