A data center Yandex calls its largest, in Sasovo in Ryazan, burned in the night of Oct. 8. The company confirms an incident and power problems from 01:31. Forty minutes later the situation was not stable. Users lost Disk and Docs. NetBlocks measured a serious outage.
Pro-Ukrainian channels identify Yandex DC Sasovo, on the same site as the Sasta machine-tool plant. The plant has been under British sanctions since 2024. Governor Pavel Malkov has described the site as tens of thousands of servers for Yandex services. Ukraine’s military has not commented.
Yandex has close to 70 percent of the Russian search market, by its own count. Maps, taxis, cloud and an AI assistant sit in the same machine.
