Isaias became the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season on Wednesday night and continues to strengthen in the Gulf. The storm began as Tropical Depression Nine on Tuesday evening, and then became Tropical Storm Isaias Wednesday morning. Isaias is expected to continue strengthening on Thursday as it turns north and approaches the northern Gulf Coast. Rain and heavy winds will begin to impact the Gulf Coast on Friday from Louisiana to western Florida. The storm will weaken as it moves inland this weekend. North Carolinians making Saturday and Sunday plans should closely monitor the track of Isaias. There is increasing confidence that the storm could bring impactful rain to the Piedmont Triad Saturday through Sunday night.
