The reason? The judge, Justice Andrew Muller, said he lacked “sexual experience” and had “limited insight into societal norms in Australia” which made him less to blame 🤯
The boy, 16 at the time, had moved from Bhutan just 6 months earlier. He led her away from a house party, pinned her down and kept going while she cried and begged him to stop.
The judge went even so far as to say that the crime deserved prison, then suspended the entire 18-month sentence anyway.
The victim meanwhile, got a life sentence, where she struggled to bathe or brush her teeth for months, and can’t even call her own body her own.
