France test-fired the new submarine missile M51.3 on Oct. 6 from the nuclear submarine Le Vigilant, off Penmarc’h in Finistère.
No nuclear warhead. Macron watched the shot from the frigate Auvergne.
He wrote that the message had landed, loud and clear, where it was meant to. On deck he said that to be free one must be feared. Russia was not named. Kaliningrad had been named the week before.
The M51.3 is three stages, solid fuel, about 12 metres and 52 tonnes. Paris does not give the range of this version. Older M51s have been estimated at 8,000–10,000 kilometres. The missile is meant for the next submarine class, SNLE 3G, after 2035.
A test without a charge. A sentence with an address.
Russia hit Ukraine with a mass missile and drone attack on Kyiv, Pryluky, Kremenchuk and other Ukrainian cities. At least 7 killed. A five-story residential block in Pryluky partially collapsed with people inside. Rescue crews are still digging.
