🇮🇱🇵🇸 As Israel mourns the victims of October 7 today, Hamas marked the anniversary by calling the attack a historic turning point
In a statement, the group rejected the idea that October 7 started the conflict, describing it as a response to decades of occupation, blockade and Israeli military operations.
Hamas also said it remains committed to the ceasefire, urged mediators and the U.S. to push Israel to let in aid, allow reconstruction and pull out of Gaza, and called on the ICC and ICJ to act against Israeli officials over war crimes and genocide accusations.
The attack killed 1,221 people in Israel, and 251 were taken hostage.
The war that followed has killed more than 74,200 Palestinians, Gaza’s Health Ministry says, a figure the UN considers reliable.

The PM’s Office posted a Lego-style animation that walks through the Hamas attack and argues Israel’s war in Gaza does not meet the legal definition of genocide.
It points to evacuation warnings, aid deliveries and a polio vaccination drive for nearly 560,000 Gazan children, asking why Israel would do any of that if wiping out Gazans were the goal.
This war has been fought with missiles, in tunnels and before judges in The Hague.
None of it has settled the argument, so Israel is now bringing out the big guns, in Lego form.
