Newsom calls for 25th amendment after Trump’s comments on California cities

On Tuesday’s “The Daily Take”: NewsNation’s Connell McShane and Geraldo Rivera react to recent comments made by President Trump, where he suggested allowing Iran to “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego, leading California Gov. Gavin Newsom to call for the 25th amendment. “This is a president who specializes in hyperbole and sayings that are explained by frantic aides for weeks and months at a time afterwards,” Rivera says. The pair also discuss Trump getting backlash for ads that were paid for by the government.

Is Congress destroying college football? PCSA, NIL caps and roster chaos

As the Protect College Sports Act works its way through Washington, the future of college athletics hangs in a precarious balance. But what exactly is in the bill? And is Congress stepping in to fix broken revenue systems — or are lawmakers just collectively bargaining for players without giving them a seat at the table?

On this episode of “BIFF,” host Biff Poggi sits down with college athletics executive Sean Magee and premier national college sports insider Ross Dellenger to pull back the curtain on the PCSA. Together, they break down the bill’s “soft cap,” the harsh reality of athletic department spending, transfer rule overhauls and why both players and athletic directors are pushing back against Capitol Hill’s intervention.

From the debate over player employment and collective bargaining to why congressional legislation rarely fixes competitive equity, this is an unfiltered, high-level breakdown of where college football is actually heading. CHAPTERS:
00-2:30 – Show Open/Intros
00 – BIFF: Back in the day, [schools] were like cartels – players didn’t get anything in spite of the money we raised for the schools
00 – BIFF: Are schools really losing money with the recently set rules?
30 – Ross – At the Power Conference level, football, basketball and sometimes, baseball – are ‘paying’ for the other programs
52 – The NIL rules set in place two years ago forced schools to find other ways to pay for other programs
40 – Ross: If schools knew they were going to have a soft cap ‘back then’ – they might’ve saved more, instead of giving raises to admins and building gaudy facilities
30 – Sean: Most fans just don’t understand – that this has been a zero accounting system for a long time.
30 – Sean: “In my experience, [college athletic] programs don’t have revenue issues, they have spending problems.”
15 – Sean breaks down the actual cost to athletic programs for their athletes… “scholarships aren’t ‘free’ – someone’s footing that bill.”
55 – BIFF: When I first saw [the PCSA bill] it struck me that it’s an attack on the free market
30 – Ross: Because schools are in competitive recruiting environment, they’re finding loopholes to go way, way over the cap.
25 – Diving into the PCSA transfer rule
20 – Sean explains why he supports the one-time transfer
16 – Sean: Schools really don’t have much leverage to hold a firm line on dealing with players… unlike the NFL
34 – Sean: Freshmen are extraordinarily expensive to bring into a program – it’s like we’re currently sitting in a pre-2011 NFL
45 – BIFF: In my opinion, the schools have colluded against the transfer rule.
50 – Ross compares the amendments made by Democrats and Republicans to the PCSA, coaches v player pay caps
38 – Sean maintains that players really don’t want [collective bargaining] or the PCSA bill to become law. Ross agrees.
20 – Ross: Athletes shouldn’t want this bill – because it caps their compensation, but it’s not all bad… like agent caps.
33 – Ross thinks the PCSA will actually open the door for collective bargaining in college athletics
40 – BIFF: I want to see a caps coaches salaries…or some percentage of net profit
29 – BIFF: I think this bill is really flawed.
30 – Sean: Even if we get to this hard cap, we’re going to artificially limit what these programs can spend.
40 – Sean: [In college football], we’re much closer to Major League Baseball than we are to the NFL in terms of economics.
55 – Ross: This bill does try to legislate competitive equity… and it’s why the bigger schools don’t want it. It handcuffs their spending.
00 – Ross: The Congressional Black Caucus (in the House) has come out against this bill
15 – BIFF asks Ross how far he’s willing to use his voice to get the PCSA “right”
