Pro-Saudi forces in Yemen, backed by Riyadh, have retaken the strategic Bab al-Mandab area on the Red Sea in an operation called “Yemen’s Dawn,” their largest since the escalation with the Houthis began. The Houthis are simultaneously advancing on the Taiz front in the southwest. The stated goal is the liberation of Sana’a, under Houthi control since 2014. Yemeni sources tied to the pro-Saudi factions expect a long and difficult campaign to get there. Pakistan is expected to provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia. The UAE and Qatar have signaled willingness to fund the effort. Kan News.
