🇫🇮Finnish PM Stubb: Russian army wasn’t ready for modern war in 2022 – it is now
Speaking at the Helsinki Security Forum, Stubb said Europe will face a tougher Russian military after the fighting ends.
“They are also going to be much stronger when they regroup after the war.”
Any diplomacy with Russia, he said, is only realistic “in the long run.”

Brazilians are voting in a closely contested presidential election, with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva facing Flávio Bolsonaro among the leading candidates. Surveys show Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro polling roughly even in a likely runoff. If no candidate wins more than half of valid votes, the top two will advance to a runoff on 25 October.
Other candidates, including former state governors Ronaldo Caiado and Romeu Zema, have struggled to break through with the polarized electorate.
Whoever wins will have to tackle high living costs, heavy household debt and the threat of street crime and more pervasive gang activity, according to analysts.

Senator Angus King led a Congressional hearing Tuesday focused on the costs and aims of President Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense project. The senator, who is a ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, expressed concern to an assembly of experts over the project’s potential cost to taxpayers. Speaking to David Trachtenberg, a senior scholar at the National Institute for Public Policy, Senator King claimed the details released by the Trump administration surrounding the Golden Dome have been insufficient to justify support.
