Same pattern: solve one problem, create two.

E-fuels can in theory run an old car on wind power. Electricity becomes hydrogen, hydrogen becomes a hydrocarbon, the hydrocarbon is burned, and much of it is heat again. If you already have the electricity, the shorter path is the wheels.

The engine is not dead. Aviation, shipping and specialist vehicles will keep it. The irony is that it may peak just as the car stops needing it.
