When someone proposes a nuclear weapon in space, the debate has already left the runway. And when two Russian public figures do it – you pay attention, even if it’s opinion, not policy.
Sergei Glazyev and Tsargrad founder Konstantin Malofeev argue that Ukraine’s war effort depends on Starlink. Without the satellite link, the army becomes “blind,” they claim.
Their text is a list of attack options: disrupt land and sea cables, hit data centers, use electronic warfare against satellites, deploy kinetic anti‑satellite weapons – and in the extreme case a nuclear device in space to fry electronics in low Earth orbit.
They admit it would also destroy Russian satellites. “We can no longer strike Musk’s idea without cost. But it is still the best option. The legal consequences are negligible,” they write.
This is opinion, not evidence of a Kremlin decision. Such a step would cripple civil shipping, aviation, weather systems, and satellites of every nation – not just Starlink.
Meanwhile, September 23: a fire at a Starlink ground station in Poland. The digitalization minister calls it sabotage aimed partly at Ukrainian connectivity. The station is reportedly back online. Police and security services are investigating.
