UN report condemns Israeli military action in Gaza

The UN Human Rights Office has condemned Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip. In a report issued on Tuesday, it said that dozens of Palestinians have been killed or injured in recent days. Gaza’s civil defende agency and witnesses said Israeli strikes killed 12 people, including a family of six, in the Palestinian territory on Tuesday alone.
Despite a fragile ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, violence in the Gaza Strip hasn’t stopped, and efforts to secure a lasting agreement to end the war have stalled.
Gaza’s civil defense agency said one Israeli airstrike hit a house in central Gaza city on Tuesday. Witnesses said six members of the Al-Masri family – including four children – were killed. The Israeli military confirmed the strike, saying its target was a Hamas militant and that it’s still looking into the result of the attack.
A brother of the man killed in the strike said he had been asleep in the next room when the house was hit. He described hearing the children calling for help as the fire spread.

Modi vows punishment for exam fraud as ‘Cockroach’ protests spread

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has finally broken his silence on the student protest movement known as the Cockroach Janta Party. He said that his government will move to swiftly punish those responsible for the leak of answers that forced the cancellation of the country’s undergrad medical exam for some 2.2 million students. That scandal sparked a youth-led revolt determined to force the ouster of the country’s education minister. The protests have spread from the capital New Delhi to other large cities including Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio: I hope that the Houthis stop. They shouldn’t really do that. They got suckered into this by the Iranians. The Houthis largely were smart and stayed out of all this throughout the conflict. They now apparently have gotten themselves suckered into this by going after Saudi Arabia and their ships. I was reading reports a few hours ago that there was actually a Saudi fuel ship that’s flagged Chinese. It’s a Chinese ship. Are they going to blow up the Chinese ship? Then this becomes a problem for China. This will become a problem for the whole world. But I hope that will de-escalate because I think the Houthis, frankly, got snookered into this thing by the Iranians

We’ll see what happens there. Obviously, it’s not a positive development. We’ll see what happens.
