A technology meetup in Dublin organized by Python Ireland and scheduled to be hosted at MongoDB’s offices was canceled just one day before it was due to take place after pro-Palestinian protesters threatened the event over alleged links to “Zionist spies.”

Around 200 people had registered for the July 8 event. The campaign targeted an Israeli former chairman of Python Ireland who had completed compulsory service in the IDF roughly 25 years ago, along with Israeli entrepreneur Inbal Goldberger, who was labeled a “former intelligence operative.” Activists circulated posters featuring bloodstained handprints and the inverted red triangle commonly associated with Hamas supporters.

Neither of the targeted Israelis was even planning to attend the event.

MongoDB said it canceled the meetup because participant safety was its top priority, while Python Ireland stressed it is a non-political community dedicated solely to professional learning and collaboration.

Goldberger, who had previously been branded an “Israeli spy” in similar campaigns targeting Israeli tech workers in Ireland, warned of “a dangerous process of complete exclusion,” accusing American companies of giving in to extremist pressure instead of defending their employees.

After the cancellation, pro-Hamas activists celebrated online, claiming: “We canceled another event because of the Zionists,” and also boasted of forcing the cancellation of another event planned for Trinity College Dublin.
