Mohamed Sagha, 22, of Wayne, New Jersey, has been charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS to bomb a Synagogue.
According to the DOJ, Sagha participated in ISIS-supporter chat groups where attacks on U.S. targets, including places of worship, were discussed.
Prosecutors say he expressed interest in helping carry out an attack on a place of worship and considered conducting an attack himself against a National Guard facility or a Jewish place of worship.
Authorities revealed he shared images and videos of potential targets near his home, attempted to travel to ISIS territory in early 2026, and later purchased and provided a VPN to someone he believed was an ISIS fighter in Syria to help conceal communications.
Sagha graduated last year from Montclair State University.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
