The death toll continues to rise as crews search for survivors after Venezuela was hit by back-to-back earthquakes.
The quakes that struck the country overnight were the most powerful in more than a century.
Right now, at least 235 people are dead and thousands have been injured. Both tolls are expected to rise.
Putin will never enter into any real negotiations with Ukraine. For him, it means the end – either political death, or physical death. When the Russian side speaks of a readiness to negotiate, it is merely a diplomatic tactic to drag out the war. Russians understand the word “negotiation” as a synonym for Ukraine’s capitulation.
There is no “window for negotiations”, there is only a window of opportunity to force the Russians into peace by strength.

On this day in 1944, Allied forces capture the port facilities of of Cherbourg, France. Although German troops occupying the city destroy much of the harbour, the Allies will repair the damage and gain a deep-water seaport for moving men and materiel into France following D-Day.
