The Maya cities of Tulum, Mayapan and Coba reveal the final centuries of one of the most advanced civilizations of the Americas. Located across the Yucatan Peninsula, these cities witnessed the rise of new political centers, expanding trade networks and major architectural achievements during the postclassic Maya period.
From the fortified port of Tulum on the Caribbean coast to the great capital of Mayapan and the monumental temples of Coba, archaeologists continue to uncover how the Maya organized their cities, built pyramids, studied astronomy and managed trade across Mesoamerica. New technologies such as LiDAR and photogrammetry are helping researchers reveal structures and urban landscapes long hidden beneath the jungle.
The documentary also explores Maya religion, calendars, architecture, political power and ritual practices, while examining the transformations that reshaped the region before the arrival of the Spanish.
Through these last great cities, the story of Maya civilization continues to emerge from the forests of Yucatan, offering new insights into a culture that remains alive today.
