During the night of 22-23 June, Ukrainian drones struck the 220/35 kV electrical substation serving North Crimean Canal Pumping Station No. 2 (Насосная станция СКК №2), north of Mykolaivka, Sovetsky district, occupied Crimea, Ukraine.
NOAA-21 thermal imagery shows multiple high-confidence hotspots acquired at 20:31 UTC on 22 June, consistent with a large structural fire at the compound.
NS-2 is the second of four pumping stations on the eastern branch of the canal, lifting water to the next section to flow by gravity toward the reservoirs serving Kerch and Feodosia.
Loss of substation power halts refilling of those downstream reservoirs until repairs are completed.
Those downstream reservoirs were already carrying the lowest water reserves on the peninsula heading into summer.
Crimea’s ongoing power outages from prior strikes on the electrical grid have already been reported to be affecting water distribution systems across the peninsula, leaving residents unable to receive water even from whatever reserves remain.
Occupying authorities have not acknowledged the NS-2 substation strike.
