The United States and Iran completed their first day of negotiations in Switzerland aimed at transforming a temporary peace deal into a permanent agreement within 60 days. The talks faced immediate challenges as Iran’s delegation temporarily left the room after President Donald Trump threatened renewed military strikes and warned Iran against closing the Strait of Hormuz. Key issues being negotiated include Iran’s nuclear programme, control of the Strait of Hormuz, and ongoing conflict in Lebanon involving Iranian-backed proxies.

Following instructions from Israel’s political leadership to halt operations in Lebanon, the IDF has paused activity at the Ali Taher ridge, where Hezbollah is believed to have constructed an underground fortified command complex housing Iranian-made ballistic missiles.
