Authorities responded on June 11 to what appeared to be a large “8647” marking traced into the grass on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., near the World War II Memorial. The marking was observed by a Reuters photographer from the Washington Monument shortly before officials arrived. While the numbers 8, 6, and 7 were visible, the 4 was less clearly defined. The area was also being used for military parachute training exercises.
