U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that U.S. forces have disabled the 9th vessel that failed to comply with the U.S. naval blockade of Iran and the 3rd just this week. Last night at 1120pm E.T., U.S. forces fired 2 AGM-114 ‘Hellfire’ missiles into the engine room of the Guinea-Bissau-flagged motor tanker ‘Jalvee’ as it transited the Gulf of Oman after it failed to heed U.S. directives several times.

CENTCOM STATEMENT: At 11:20 p.m. ET on June 10, U.S. forces disabled the Guinea/Bissau flagged oil tanker M/T Jalveer in the Gulf of Oman after it attempted to transport Iranian oil through the blockade. The crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions from U.S. forces, after which a U.S. aircraft fired two Hellfire missiles into the vessel’s engine room. The M/T Jalveer is the third commercial ship disabled by American forces this week as part of enforcement operations against Iranian oil shipments. {Side note: Indian nationals were aboard the vessel, prompting India’s foreign ministry to publicly address the incident}

Police use water cannon on protesters in second night of unrest in Northern Ireland


Violence erupted on the streets of Belfast for a second night on Wednesday as masked young men hurled bricks at police, who responded by firing water cannon to disperse gathering crowds.

Masked youths broke up parts of pavements and walls of private homes to make bricks to throw at police, and a vehicle appeared to have been set alight, sending black smoke billowing into the sky.

Two hundred extra police officers were on the streets after residents were forced to flee homes that were set alight on Tuesday night, as a Sudanese man was charged over a knife attack in Belfast.

The family of Stephen Ogilvie, who lost an eye in the attack, said they were “disgusted” by the response and “do not want this terrible tragedy to be used to divide people or fuel hostility”.
