Today: US launches new strikes against Iran, and Bill Gates says Epstein blackmailed him

Today as it Happened on Wednesday, June 10, 2026:

The U.S. launched new strikes against Iran Wednesday “in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression.”

U.S. Central Command said it struck multiple targets at President Trump’s direction. Further details were not immediately available.

The activity follows a warning from President Donald Trump Wednesday.

“They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them. Now they will have to pay the price!!!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

He later clarified his comments, saying before the strikes began “We’re going to hit them again hard today.”

Trump’s comments marked a shift in tone after he previously said Iran was “desperate” to reach a deal to end the war, which has been ongoing since Feb. 28.

Bill Gates testified before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The Microsoft co-founder told lawmakers that Epstein blackmailed him over extramarital affairs but said he had no involvement in Epstein’s crimes. He also said he never visited Epstein’s home or his island.

And the Department of Justice has responded to a lawsuit seeking to block a UFC event scheduled to take place this weekend on White House grounds.

In a court filing, the Justice Department argued there is historical precedent for hosting major public events at the White House. Attorneys pointed to President Andrew Johnson, who hosted baseball events on the South Lawn in the 1800s.

U.S. launches more strikes on Iran at the direction of President Trump

U.S. forces launched a new round of “self-defense strikes” against multiple targets in Iran on Wednesday evening, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM said the strikes began at approximately 5:15 p.m. ET and were carried out at the direction of President Donald Trump.

The operation followed earlier U.S. military action against Iranian targets after the downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz a few days ago.

The strikes also came after Trump threatened more attacks.

It marked the latest escalation in a conflict that has seen repeated exchanges between U.S. and Iranian forces despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
