Maternal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa, which has the world’s fastest-growing population, accounts for 70% of global maternal deaths. Around 180,000 pregnancy deaths are recorded every year across the continent, along with the deaths of about 1 million newborns. #shorts #subsaharanafrica #maternalhealth #africa

U.S. Intelligence: Turf Wars, Mexico, Iran – Gemini gemini.google.com/share/0865…
The intelligence landscape today is defined by significant institutional friction, shifting clandestine operations, and complex strategic realignments. Here is a breakdown of the most critical developments across global security and the U.S. intelligence apparatus.Institutional Friction: The ODNI-CIA Rift
A major turf war has fractured the U.S. intelligence community, centering on the relationship between the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).
The friction reached a boiling point following the appointment of Bill Pulte—the former director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency—as the acting DNI. Pulte possesses no conventional background in intelligence, military affairs, or diplomacy. His installation signals a clear emphasis on institutional control and political loyalty over traditional tradecraft, operating on a behavioral dynamic where loyalty to the executive supersedes established bureaucratic structures.
In response to this shift and ongoing disputes over intelligence-sharing, the CIA, under Director John Ratcliffe, has begun withholding contributions to several key ODNI assessments. This internal decoupling is significantly disrupting the synthesis of national security intelligence, most notably regarding the ongoing conflict in Iran.
The State-Crime Nexus: Clandestine Operations in Mexico
Reports are emerging regarding an expansion of CIA operations targeting mid-tier leadership within Mexican cartels. Specifically, intelligence personnel are alleged to have been involved in the March 28 car bomb assassination of Francisco “El Playin” Beltran, a mid-level figure in the Sinaloa cartel.
Official channels in both Washington and Mexico City have categorically dismissed these reports as “fictions.” However, evaluating these denials requires acknowledging the standard epistemological gaps inherent in intelligence work. The absence of public confirmation or evidence is a requirement of clandestine tradecraft, not proof of a non-event. This dynamic highlights the increasingly complex intersection between state security objectives and transnational organized crime networks.
This reported operational shift also comes amid the recent disclosure that two CIA officers died in an accident in Mexico following a counternarcotics operation, underscoring the active, physical presence of the agency in the region.
Geopolitical Shifts: The Iran Conflict
Intelligence assessments continue to paint a challenging picture of the strategic landscape in the Middle East, occasionally contradicting public policymaker narratives:
Great Power Assistance: U.S. intelligence indicates that both Russia and China are actively keeping the Iranian military lethal. Russia is reportedly providing direct intelligence to help Iran target U.S. forces, while China is suspected of preparing to deliver—or having already delivered—shipments of shoulder-fired anti-air missiles (MANPADs).
Regime Stability: Internal ODNI and CIA assessments warn that the Iranian regime is successfully consolidating power and can likely outlast current U.S. blockades, despite the administration’s public assertions of degrading Iran’s capabilities.OSINT and Digital Espionage
Counterintelligence agencies are increasingly focused on the digital recruitment of civilians and non-traditional intelligence gathering.
The Five Eyes Warning: The U.S. and its Five Eyes partners have issued a joint alert regarding Chinese intelligence utilizing fake profiles and professional platforms like LinkedIn. The goal is to digitally recruit military and government personnel for sensitive information using financial incentives and fraudulent job postings.
European Surveillance: Austrian intelligence officials are warning of a spike in espionage against military targets. Russian intelligence is reportedly pivoting heavily toward recruiting civilians digitally to execute surveillance missions, bypassing the need to deploy trained officers on the ground.CIA Limits Iran Intel Amid Turf War Among U.S. Spy Agencies | GRAVITAS
