🇺🇸 California voters are deciding whether billionaires should pay a one-time 5% wealth tax.
Proposition 40 would hit anyone worth more than $1 billion, with most of the money going toward healthcare and 10% toward education and food assistance.
Bernie Sanders is all for it, calling it a major step toward tackling wealth inequality.
But Governor Gavin Newsom isn’t buying it. He warns the tax could send billionaires packing.
And some are already spending big to stop it. Google co-founder Sergey Brin alone has poured more than $100 million into the campaign against the proposal.
So here’s where things stand. California wants billionaires to pay more, but some are spending a fortune to make sure that doesn’t happen.
