Medvedev lauds key role of Iran in ensuring security in Hormuz

“Iran plays a key role in ensuring security in the Strait of Hormuz. It is underpinned simply by geography as well as the existing international law system, in particular the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and other international documents. And I think Iran does a good job in this role,” he argued, TASS reports.

Russia would like the Hormuz and Ban el-Mandeb straits to function normally, Medvedev added. “But everything should be done based on normal, full-fledged agreements rather than by force,” he concluded.

🇺🇦🇷🇺 People in Russian-occupied Oleshky, near Kherson in southern Ukraine, are riding bikes across mined roads just to pick up food. Around 2,000 people, including kids, have been pretty much cut off since May, with barely any electricity, water or safe way to leave. Ukrainian drones recently dropped around 4 tonnes of food across the town, but reaching the packages still means risking mines and drones. The UN says people are facing starvation and wants a local ceasefire so they can finally get out. Writer: Daniyal

Greater contact vital for Azerbaijan-Armenia reconciliation, says expert

Reconciliation between Azerbaijan and Armenia will take time, with people-to-people engagement playing a key role in the peace process, Leon Cook, Founder of Atticus Partners, told AnewZ’s Caucasus Now.

Cook said Azerbaijan’s demand for a formal constitutional change in Armenia is understandable from the perspective of border stability, while stressing that greater interaction between the two societies will be crucial for lasting peace.

He said visits between the two countries and greater contact could help build mutual understanding after decades of conflict.
