The Omani co-pilot accused of attacking Flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar has been identified as Hamam al-Hammami. AP reported that Oman had previously barred him from flying over concerns about extremist views. Investigators are examining whether he acted alone or had links to extremist groups as the UAE-led probe continues.

Previously, he served in multiple Democratic and Republican administrations, including as the president’s special envoy for Middle East peace.
