Russia has warned NATO that it could use nuclear weapons if the alliance attempts to isolate Kaliningrad, its exclave on the Baltic Sea, according to a diplomatic document seen by Reuters.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte rejected the warning, saying the alliance is defensive and that Russia’s nuclear threats are “absolutely not called for and not helpful”. The exchange comes amid heightened tensions between Moscow and NATO over the war in Ukraine and military activity around the Baltic region.

Jackson Hinkle, who has met the Houthis in Yemen, doubts a Gulf coalition gets any further than Washington did:
“The United States has tried on two separate occasions recently to try and remove Ansar Allah from the seat of power in Sana’a, and they have failed.”
Luai Ahmed asks whether a group nobody elected should be running the country at all, and Jackson calls the Houthis’ ability to mobilize fighters far more impressive than anything America’s two-party system produces.
Two decisions are still open, whether the Gulf states actually form that coalition and whether the US joins it, and those decide how far this spreads.

Jackson Hinkle has been to Sana’a and argues the Houthis are a legitimate national movement, built on tribal alliances and mass mobilization, that has beaten every Saudi and American attempt to remove them.
Luai Ahmed grew up in Yemen and argues they are an armed minority with single-digit support that shut down every human rights group and polling center in the capital and holds power by force.
They went at the numbers first, because Ahmed brought a poll showing 8 percent support and Hinkle answered with a movement that can put hundreds of thousands in the field.
Then whether Saudi sorties really fell from a hundred a day to twenty, whether Yemenis would pick the Saudi proxy or the Iranian one if anyone asked them, and whether a reported Gulf coalition can succeed where Hinkle says two American campaigns failed.
A Gulf coalition is reportedly getting ready to bomb Yemen, and whether that works depends on one question: are the Houthis a small armed minority that cracks under pressure, or a movement that keeps winning ground because enough Yemenis are behind it?

The more we learn about Flydubai flight FZ1073, the more incredible it gets. After the co-pilot attacked the captain in the cockpit, the badly wounded captain still had the presence of mind to unlock the cockpit door.
