🇾🇪 One Yemeni poll puts Houthi support around 8%, and another found 3% in areas they don’t even control Luai Ahmed, whose mother ran a human rights group in Sana’a, says the pollster behind the 8% figure had to relocate after the takeover, and so did his mother’s organization: “My own mother’s organization had to leave Sanaa because of the Houthi takeover.” He calls the Houthis a group that shut down every human rights monitor and polling center in their territory. If support is anywhere near those numbers, the Houthis are holding Sana’a by force, and any deal that locks them in leaves most Yemenis without a say in who runs their country. @jacksonhinkle @JustLuai

🇾🇪 One Yemeni poll puts Houthi support around 8%, and another found 3% in areas they don’t even control

Luai Ahmed, whose mother ran a human rights group in Sana’a, says the pollster behind the 8% figure had to relocate after the takeover, and so did his mother’s organization:

“My own mother’s organization had to leave Sanaa because of the Houthi takeover.”

He calls the Houthis a group that shut down every human rights monitor and polling center in their territory.

If support is anywhere near those numbers, the Houthis are holding Sana’a by force, and any deal that locks them in leaves most Yemenis without a say in who runs their country.

Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal)🇸🇦 🇾🇪 Smoke reportedly rose over an Aramco complex after a Yemeni missile strike, and the Houthis say Saudi Arabia hit back with 51 strikes

Jackson Hinkle, who has met the Houthis in Yemen, doubts a Gulf coalition gets any further than Washington did:

“The United States has tried on two separate occasions recently to try and remove Ansar Allah from the seat of power in Sana’a, and they have failed.”

Luai Ahmed asks whether a group nobody elected should be running the country at all, and Jackson calls the Houthis’ ability to mobilize fighters far more impressive than anything America’s two-party system produces.

Two decisions are still open, whether the Gulf states actually form that coalition and whether the US joins it, and those decide how far this spreads.

🇺🇸 Gas prices are climbing… but WHY? One possibility pins the increase on Trump and the war with Iran, while the other points to Democratic environmental regulations as part of the pressure on energy costs. The bigger question now: how much of what Americans are paying at the pump comes from the current conflict, and how much comes from longer-term U.S. energy policy? 🇺🇸 Gas prices are climbing… but WHY?

One possibility pins the increase on Trump and the war with Iran, while the other points to Democratic environmental regulations as part of the pressure on energy costs.

The bigger question now: how much of what Americans are paying at the pump comes from the current conflict, and how much comes from longer-term U.S. energy policy?

Everyone feels the price at the pump, but agreeing on who put it there? Not even close.

Kimi Antonelli has “spooked himself” amid F1 title pressure, says Naomi Schiff

Kimi Antonelli has “spooked himself” amid F1 title pressure, says Naomi Schiff

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli has “spooked himself” and must “get out of his head” to avoid crumbling under the pressure of the Formula 1 fight, according to pundit Naomi Schiff.

The Mercedes driver arrived at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix with a commanding 81-point lead. But that advantage was reduced to 66 points after team-mate George Russell successfully converted pole position to a race win, while Antonelli finished fifth after starting from 16th on the grid.

Speaking on the Up To Speed podcast, former W Series driver and Sky Sports F1 pundit Schiff warned that the Italian driver’s body language in Baku suggested he was starting to feel the pressure of his maiden championship fight.

“I felt like when I was looking at Kimi on track this weekend and not just the mistake that he made [in qualifying], but just his general demeanour on track, it felt like a driver who’s driving for that championship, but has almost spooked himself a little bit too much,” Schiff explained.

“So he feels a little bit stiff in the car because he doesn’t want to make a mistake. And that’s also not the right place to be in.”

She added: “He just needs to get out of his head. And we’ve seen it happen before. Last season he was in his head a lot as well. He managed to get that under control, and then he was driving more freely. He came into the beginning of the season a new man.

“I really hope that he’s not going to spook himself out of this because it is so easy. It’s such a psychological game that once you get in your head, you start worrying about things. You almost bring those things to yourself. So I hope he can free himself up.”

Although Antonelli endured a difficult weekend in Baku, he still holds a 66-point lead in the drivers’ championship over his team-mate Russell, who sits in second.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 The real confession in the Pentagon’s big speech: 7 months of war with Iran have drained America’s arsenal

War Secretary Pete Hegseth rolled out six new programs at Quantico, and the one that matters most is FORTRESS America, which promises bases that can power themselves and deep reserves of munitions, fuel, medicine and blood.

That’s the Pentagon admitting what this war exposed, with air defenses and munitions partly spent, warships worn down, at least 19 Americans dead and more than 800 wounded in a fight Washington first said would take weeks.

A new drone warfare command makes sense for the same reason.

The catch is most of it lands in 2027 while the war is happening now, so every minute spent on culture fights from the podium is a minute not spent getting Congress to pay for refilling the magazines.
