Luai Ahmed explains why they’ve been so hard to dislodge since 2014, starting with Sana’a sitting on what he calls one giant mountain:
“When you use violence, you don’t need people to say, yes, we like you.”
Jackson Hinkle credits their weapons, claiming Houthi air defenses have cut Saudi sorties from about 100 a day to 20 and downed an F-15, which is why Riyadh wants American B-1 bombers in the fight.
Jackson is betting Ansar Allah never falls, and if those B-1s show up, that bet gets tested fast.

Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal)🇾🇪 One Yemeni poll puts Houthi support around 8%, and another found 3% in areas they don’t even control
Luai Ahmed, whose mother ran a human rights group in Sana’a, says the pollster behind the 8% figure had to relocate after the takeover, and so did his mother’s organization:
“My own mother’s organization had to leave Sanaa because of the Houthi takeover.”
He calls the Houthis a group that shut down every human rights monitor and polling center in their territory.
If support is anywhere near those numbers, the Houthis are holding Sana’a by force, and any deal that locks them in leaves most Yemenis without a say in who runs their country.
