Nolo has intensified into a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds around 145 mph, although its center remains offshore and no landfall has occurred.
There are also concerns around Kīlauea, where strong winds could carry volcanic material known as tephra, sometimes described as “volcanic hail,” farther from the volcano, potentially affecting roads and rainwater catchment systems.
